328 Section 5, Chapter 36 continued -Yoga Vasistha
BackPrahlada the demon has turned from worship of Visnu to self-enquiry as a result of a boon from Lord Visnu. The Yoga Vasistha appears to be weaving strands of Hinduism into the rope of self-enquiry, for example, Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Pranaymic and Tantric teachings.
Pain and negativity have a great drawing power on the attention and the emotions. We prefer to justify such negative attitudes rather than use them as an opportunity to turn to awareness, to enquire into "Who am I?" We do this cheerfully! Rather than do it from a dismal point of view which fuels sorrow. We are being encouraged to look beyond our deep pain. We spend a lot of time running from this looking for our comfort zone.
Who is it that is experiencing such emotional pain? Don't dwell on past pain. Keep the attention on itself. This is free from pain. Be master of the senses and the mind rather than let them be the masters. The mind and the senses often operate against our own best interests. Addictions, unhealthy habits, fetishes can be a danger to ourselves and others.
Even though Prahlada is a demon he has gone beyond such conditioning.
