rumi was not pashtun(afghan). Call him khorasani, Iranian, Persian , but not pashtun(afghan). Afghanistan is a new country.. few centuries old. Its like saying abu ali sina was uzbek!!, because the city where he was born is today a part of a new country named uzbekistan!!, but U know that abu ali sina was persian.

dear mr siavash, I know most of the thing you are saying is true, our love for all poet no matter were they are from is as big as the true love itself. arab or persian or afgan do you think teacher ( Rumi ) wrote and said all this words for farsi speking pepole?how are we to judge him and how am I to judge you but I hope you change your feeling about non persian, Peace,love,understanding..reza

Khayyam, Sa'adi, Hafez all were great men.But all are students of the master and the true teacher-Hakim Abu Qasem Firdowsi Tusi(Shahnameh)who saved the Parsi(Farsi) from extinction.If this great man did not live, then we might never heard of the great poets of Persia that have made Iran so great and that spread Persianate culture throughout the world:

Rumi's message of universal love is in their opinion(West's) contradicts with the image of the religion of Islam these days.I think they could be wrong in their opinion and I also think that we muslims also have a lot to answer for by not conveying the true message of Islam-we have made people to fear and loathe us by using the hard power of Islam.Islam still retains a soft power that if used correctly we can make friends out of these people.Anyway,Mawlana Balkhi, Farid Ad-Din Attar.............

Mawlana Jalal Ad-Din Muhammed Balki or Parsi(because he was a persian, speaking Parsi, corrupted to Farsi by the Arabs).Rumi is a name that I dislike to use, because it denotes the area he lived in (Anatolia) which was still (a part of it) under the byzantine empire-christian lands.Therefore, the West knows him by this name(Rumi)and they try to disasscociate him from his Islamic roots.Many people in the West don't even know he is muslim.They are surprised when they know this.I guess because.....
