KISS and Genesis are the reasons why white/black makeup became popular in Europe... though nobody ever does it for their reasons. Nowadays it's corpsepaint what they say, but badly done it looks a lot like KISS. But remember that every band does their own paints, and it means something different for each, so don't say "yeah, KISS" everytime you see white-black painted face. Genesis vocalist Peter Gabriel did it before KISS.
