I just got a series of really weird phone calls from a guy named Sterling R Smith. He asked "Who the fuck [I was.]" Then started to narrate words and told me to write them down. "I heard the call on feathered drums, oh universe, oh time untold..." I did and googled it. He called me back and I mentioned Jandek and he said, "You've heard my music?" Then he told me to look up "Put my Dreams on this Planet." Anyone know whats the deal with this guy? It freaked me out a bit. E-mail me please.

you could rip off jandek now that you have heard it. music is often imitation of other music. monkey see monkey do. jandek is an artist. he isnt marketing his music to an audience and hes not trying to be the best musician. if you judge like he is then you are missing the point. you dont have to follow the patterns of people before you. it makes no sense to just accept the normal system of human experience. make your own. its morexciting. just trying to spread some insight from a different view.

if you dont like his music you dont like his music just like all other music and everything else people create but at least he is making something from nothing instead of trying to make music he's heard before. even if i didnt like this i would still appreciate the novelty. its a fact that if people hear something unfamiliar they are 'turned off' by it. people are afraid to like something if they think it isnt the majority's opinion. sorry to rant but simply saying 'awesome' here doesnt seem fit

I hurt to think that TOMORROW he is apparently playing in San Fransisco and I'm a three hour drive away and informed too late.

If you can't argue subjectivity, why are you arguing against Jandek making enjoyable music? Jandek makes, music, thus art, and HOLY shit I wish I was at this gig. You truck on with your thing man, but Jandek genuinely connects with a lotta lot a people and creates art that evokes the sort of feelings good art does. As it happens, I was attracted to the music before I knew his "story".
