"Happy, curious, rational, patient". I'd bet that people with those are more successful at changing minds. However, if both people have those qualities, then a discussion is created rather than a debate. I think its more important for people to develop those qualities than to learn about anarchy. Instead of debating, I'll give naysayers an exercise to develop those qualities. I'll tell them to read a book or a website on the subject and leave the conversation at that. simplyanarchydotcom

You're very optimistic about the power of reason: you basically hold the Enlightenment position. Your diagnosis is that people agree - have the same intuitions - concerning basic principles, but then that some reason badly from these principles. But this position is controversial: it can be argued that disagreements are not just due to relative competence in reasoning, but due to divergent basic principles, based on different basic intuitions concerning knowledge, values or whatever.

Relativistic tripe. A is A, PP. I know that pisses you off, but swirling chemicals and electrical signals in your brain do not necessarily change the fundamental fabric of reality for the world at large. Behavior is still subject to observation and analysis, regardless of the underlying ideas.
I also like how you assigned an opinion to Stef, then attacked it. Amusing. Wholly fallacious, of course, and not quite reflective of the philosophy he has portrayed in a series of books, but amusing.

The principle of identity doesn't "piss me off" lol! Modern science, which I revere, would be impossible without it. But science establishes a certain - objectivising-attitude towards the world, and is not the only possible attitude or necessarily the source of all wisdom. Think of the whole body of Eastern philosophy. Western thinkers - eg Heidegger - have also argued that this sets up an exploitative attitude towards nature. If I misrepresent Stefan, it's unintentional: please let me know how.

Just to add another tip (I learned from someone else), I don't use often enough:
If you want to move someone from point A to point B, simply go to point A and walk them to point B.
It's a mental strategy of putting yourself in the other persons mindset, then working your way to the desired goal.
