overthrow the very fundamentals of our society. what "fundamentals" if he's denying the absolute value of these very fundamentals (and thus also facilitates their being overthrown)? i'm not trying to say he hasn't got a clue, just wondering what "fundamentals" has he got in mind then? cause those that he claims to re-affirm he has to also relativize and ultimately degrade: it's a precious fragile balance indeed...

Well, Foucault absolutely has a point that in describing the 'utopia' of our society why are at risk of basing it on untrue ideas of the human nature and human values due to w/e reason of our state of being, and why might act badly.
However, as chomsky i believe we must pose such ideas and strive for them. The trick is to continuously do this even as we achieve what we thought was our 'utopia', and thus one can hope this process in 5000 years will bring us to our true 'utopia'

I hate to succumb to semantics, here. However, I never said and neither did I suggest that justice is equality, but the pathway of justice CAN lead to equality even if the overall motive may not have been related to that end. Secondly, not all justice has to be officiated nor dispensed by national governments. In fact, in the modern context, the mitigation of justice usually begins with common people and the government joins in a lot later, so -- in that way -- I do agree with you.

Foucault is sexual maniak. Just look at his own eyes.

some comments here seem to erroneously suggest that foucault's proposal 'to criticize the workings of institutions' is not 'west-born'. isn't criticism more 'west-born' than anarchism? anarchism is more natural & universal because chomsky correctly believes that it is built in our nature. foucault's proposal, on the other hand, is not. foucault's proposal only sounds good but is not based on facts about human needs, one of which is the need to be free from unjustified exercise and use of power.
