we need a new idea of metaphysics. a post-metaphysics. the problem with metaphysics is it's undecidablity at the point of orgin, the center is neither simply presence or absence.
in the East philosophies talk about a center whose circumference is nowhere. the sanskrit term "maya" can be translated as "to measure," and "maya" is also the word of suffering. It's simple, if there is no center, there is no circumference whence to "measure."

I agree also, the issue of presence vs. absence, it at first seems obvious that presence is the root, but after consideration, we enter doubt about this.
Again, metaphysics is still stuck in immense speculation, there is no classroom where you can be taught the truth of metaphysics, we instead hear various theories many how considered.
Metaphysics needs to be made a science.

Its called Waking Life
Now one shred of hope is physics became a science only 400 yrs ago (math became a science right about when it was found, 2,500 yrs ago).
We also need a new epistemology, to provide a method to find metaphysical truths.
