It does not take religion to be against civil rights. Take a look at some of the most ruthless and oppressive people in history. Mao, Stalin, Castro. They were not bible thumping Christians and in the case of Mao and Stalin, they went out of their way to oppress religion along with everybody's civil rights.
Also they were as far to the left as one can get.

i appreciate the support on my comment but if you clump a group of people together like that you're not any better than any of the homophobs. i'm a christian and also a practicing homosexual. i dunno. just goes to show i guess. i must admit though that many of those groups are like that, however just do remember that not all are.

Some groups of people can be clumped, and some can't. Maybe you have a reflex for defending groups of people. But imagine I complained about nazis. They are defined by a quality that they share, like conservatives or Christians. Some groups make sense, some don't. The problem with prejudices and stereotypes is that the target groups being clumped don't actually share a quality worth discussing or hating or whatever.

"You mean like the REVEREND Martin Luther King, Jr.?"

What about him? He believed what he was raised with and grew up around. It's not like Christianity had a say against slavery. I hope you are not suggesting that equal rights for African Americans is a conservative thing.

Pathetic attempt at backpedaling, JR.
JerryRSun (January 9, 2009 at 10:21 am)
You're not even saying anything.
Ivorygate (January 9, 2009 at 10:37 am)
Your own words:
"That's how they (Christians) are against civil rights."
It doesn't take a genius to realize that the father of the civil rights movement, A REVEREND, was not "against civil rights".
Ivorygate (January 9, 2009 at 10:40 am)
And by the way JR, if you consider yourself non-prejudiced you are a hypocrite. Lumping all people of any group (Christians count you know) under one definition makes YOU prejudiced by definition.
JerryRSun (January 9, 2009 at 11:08 am)
It TAKES religion to make someone against civil rights. I did not say all religious people are against civil rights. Reading comprehension.

We all know that you are the prejudiced one Strawmangate, you've lumped ALL blacks including gay rights supporters like MLKjr's widow into the anti-gay group, all gay rights supporters into one large group and then call yourself conservative when YOU are the one who wants big government in other people's lives and then YOU are the one who wants to redefine marriage through LEGISLATIVE FIAT for 18000 people.

He never claimed to be fair, you on the other hand had which manes YOU the hypocrite.
