Someone please enlighten me on the idea of theravada buddhism. Can you still believe in a monotheistic God and follow the principles of buddha simultaneously?

Re written texts at Buddha's time there were cosmology writtings amongst others e.g. Laws of Manu, from which comes our word manuscript. And numerous other writtings, if one studies history one will find these things out.

Ok, that doesn't mean the language he spoke only became written 100 years later, which is why it was passed down orally. I did study history and that's what I found out. Just b/c there are some texts doesn't make my whole thought false.

^phrased all wrong, but you know what I mean. I just woke up.....

There was no written version of the language he spoke until later. That is why it was passed down by oral tradition until there was a way to write it.

Sorry but that is incorrect.India had written traditions at that period e.g. veda's, astrology texts etc and it seems when Buddha first introduced Patchidasampuda he was actually quoting from a written vedic astrology text. Sorry to contradict you.
