"Magic Realism" is only one concept of this novel. Too often i feel people get bogged down by this and are lost in it, confused with the notion of the spectacular seeming mundane. The most important and meaningful concept to me is the importance of knowing your heritage in terms of family and place - and never losing sight of this. I love this book, i'm reading it now for the third time, it seems as you grow there is something new you can appreciate about it each time round...

I do agree, that it is only one element of the novel. I made the video because I wanted to explain the concept, not because I believe that it is the only valid way to look at the book, or any other work, for that matter. Any important work is multidimensional and can be read in different ways.

Sorry for not responding. I didn't see your reply until now. I like most of his stuff. I really like Chronicle of a Death Fortold, Love in the Time of Colera, Love and Other Demons, The Autumn of the Patriarch, or his short story collections.
