yes kurt lewin originally coined the phrase in 1944. This video is a good overall perspective of action research. Agreed the different types of action research are not included, but how much information do you want in 1.51mins. Good video I say.. :)

As with many terms including 'action research' - they can be used by a variety of people in a variety of contexts prior to being used in a published work, or a variety of published works, and after being published. There are also many flavours of action research see - Carr and Kemmis, Whitehead, McNiff, Elliot, Stenhouse etc. I think the term action research has different meanings for different peoples.

Actually the term Action Research originated in a paper published in 1945 by the American left wing radical and champion of the fight for the rights of Native American Indians John Collier (1884 - 1968) Collier J. 1945. United States Indian Administration as a laboratory of ethnic relations. Social Research 12(3), 265 -303. Why start of a video with inaccuracies?

I think Curt Lewin is credited with coining the phrase in 1944. Check it out on Wikipedia
