Offerings can be divided into a couple of basic 'types'. The first type is worship/honor. This form of offering is of a portion of what sustains you, thus a portion of your food/drink, a portion of your money (tithe), etc. The second type if 'Favor/Bribe', "If you grant me this I shall offer you this", it is specific and is meant to tempt the deity to grant your wish. This offering must be of value and something tha the deity would want.

vikingjarl: 'The intent is the most important of the offering, not the object.' -Depends on what you mean. Most religions do not believe you can give crap to the gods (god) and expect the high life.

How else would you interpret what I said about intent? "Depends on what you mean"- are you serious?
Like I said before, the offering must hold some sort of meaning. If crap has a deep personal meaning to you (for whatever reason) then offer it.

why to base an offer based on old offerings?
Knowledge of those old gods have been so vague it is hard to understand why or what the god is about anymore.
The meaning of the offering by basing it off of old information?
Its to keep with a cult couture of today by staying in charicter with that old stuff as well. ( yeast does not need water to live )
Why give throw away food instead of usable parts?
Its more of a cult thing on a budget. Starve or eat?
We are atheist...

Offerings can be bad. Leaving meat out for days or burring offerings like a toxic plant in a close room.
Spending lots of money to try and follow a religion that was even though as silly 2000+ years ago is sillier then "god" now. Doing this as a hobby is great. We make weegie boards and wood carvings for fun. but more then that could be bad. Think about what your doing...
Last how do you sacrifice water? Really? do you burn it or poor it on the ground or leave it in a bowl for months?

in a movie i was watching about the Ancient Kingdom of Nubia, it was said that the Nubian priests would offer their deities water that water may have played a central role in the offerings since they lived in the desert and it was so prescious. so i kinda see where you're going with this and yes i totally agree.

it was also said that they may have offered milk as well, and i know that in alot of ancient and even the present day african tribes who are cattle herders tend to take milk as prescious or sacred as well so if they give offering they may give that as an offering. oh and there are hindus who offer their favorite sweets to the Gods as a form of libation during their puja/pooja time:-)

You made a very good point and I love you for your insight and intelligence. I never understood how or why people would make half-ass attempts to revive Gods of dead cultures when spirituality has an evolving presence. My practice is not based on such obsolete ideas. I offer my own blood. I think that a blood sacrifice is the most extreme and dedicated way of connecting to Divinity because it's your own life force which you offer.

amomentofheat: Either the Aztecs or Mayans did that too, w/ the women usualy piercing their tongues and catching the blood on a parchment like material. Men would pierce their penis. In both types of peircing a string of sharp objects was pulled through the wound or else something sharp and jagged was used to pierce like a stingray's tail for example. The blood-soaked material was then burned at the altar.
I don't think you would go this far, though!
