surprising how superiorly sophisticated the young woman's opinions are. funny how the fat guy with the glasses just makes all the food disappear like a vacuume-cleaner and just likes everything. i'm sure if i was sitting there i would've liked everything also but that's why i'm not a judge on Iron Chef -_-

haha, she is not young. "Miyoko Asada" is old idel, born in 1956.
she was 43 years old at that time (1999).
But she is very cute now, my faverite actress.
See her young era [watch?v=YlBsF0xY_4M]

I wonder why they didn't show the two kampyo/gourd dishes. That was disappointing. I would prefer that they keep that tasting in, and instead cut out part of the cheesy "all about the chef" from the beginning. This battle was a little predictable though, unfortunately. In general, when they pit "traditional" cooking against more avant-garde styles, avant-garde almost always wins.

1 hour doesn't do these chefs' skills justice.. especially when it takes hours to prepare the rice alone.

i guess that just speaks more of their skill
ThomasVarietyShow (September 16, 2008 at 11:02 am)
True, however they did prepare the rice ahead of time.

Well, I don't know about 'best Iron Chef' in the original. He tends to be unstable - sometimes pulling surprisingly good stops and sometimes falling upon himself from his own creativity (I think Michiba-san and then Sakai-san are the strongest). He does too many things on whim like for example, in this battle, although he won, he wasn't able to foresee that the oil from the fish would prevent his ice cream from hardening.
