Or, if you're not planning to make bigotry against orthodoxy part of your initial perspective on Judaism, look for an orthodox synagogue. There is a directory of synagogues at maven . co . il, an all-around great site.

why do you think its bigoted to have syubstantive disagreements about jewish matters? check out the talmud. I think there is much beauty in orthodoxy, its just wrong, in my opinion, on several huge issues, and many are very bigoted about non-orthodox Judaism. But we have several graduates who have gone Orthodox, as have many kids here, and more power to them. Would you say the ame about Conservative?

Although I've never had any formal conversion, I do keep Torah: I keep Shabbat, observe the kosher laws and I wear tzitzit on the beltloops of my jeans, and I observe all of the High Days in the Scriptures, though I'm not born Jewish. Can I be recognized as a Jew or a proslyte, since I've been living as one for 8 years?

No. You need to formally convert. its like hanging around a family bit never being formally adopted. You need the formal part.
