The meaning of life is the meaning you give to it, roughly put. This idea seems more evident today, when there are more choices of lifestyles than in the times Sartre wrote about this.
The problem is how to choose the right meanings . . . all terrorists think their lifestyles are the most meaningful.

Disfigurement is a gift! It teaches us that soul is a far loftier thing than superficial tendencies! It was almost a happy fate that he became physically ugly! It made him the philosopher he become! We may have lost him to ego had this not happened! Fuk the superficial, and long live the individual!

Although apologies about the 'good ol USA' comment, the guy just embodied the stereotype, it was too easy. America's great. Just not a fan of stupidity, from anywhere.

I completely agree with you that there is a great deal of intellectual culture in the USA, some of the greatest thinkers in the world are from America and i wasn't attacking that so much as the arrogance and ignorance of the original comment, and complete lack of context. It's like watching a film in another language and saying it's shit because it's full of foreigners, misses the point. I would find it stupid if someone moaned that there were no Europeans in a docu. about great Americans...

a. because it's the British Broadcasting Corporation, which if you consult your little picture book of 'countries outside of the good ol' USA' is in Europe. and b. because it's a series on philosophers not athletes. Philosophers, you know people who thought about stuff, you know thinking, that thing you do with your head, thing between the ears? No? Didn't think so. Idiot.

i live in 'good ol' USA, and i agree with you, that commentor is a douche, too bad not too many americans can think for themselves to think philosophy, well except for bill hicks, interesting documentary.

i will admit that there is less of an intellectual culture in the USA but your comment doesn't show much about your own intellect. if you seek you culture in the USA you can easily find it.

haha, I dont know, but I think he must have been joking.
deadlyvengeance222 (February 27, 2008 at 10:27 pm)
Great. Another documentary about another European douchebag. Five stars. Why can't we get some documentaries about Americans on here? American scientists or athletes, i.e., people who matter.
