Well said.

Sometimes I think that we may still just be reclaiming a "positive" and root nature of empathy, compassion and cooperation that was overrun by our "negative" violent and destructive nature, a "nature" that may actually just be plain ignorance or insanity.

While I agree nature isn't immutable(it obviously isn't), the "fear of poverty" is more fundamentally a fear of death. Take away the fear of death, which in my mind will only happen when we take away death, and there won't be any need to acquire anything. Orwell made the assertion that limited resources are the fuel of greed, and they are; but until we are more resourceful or less in need of resources, this part of human nature will exist. The changes required are greater than Orwell assumes.

I agree with Inmendham's response.

While Orwell's observation seems to have merit, I think his suggestion that 'human nature' could change to any noticeable degree in just a few generations was generous optimism. Maybe a few thousand generations.

Good video. I read animal farm and 1984, but I did not even know he had articles, essays. That article was awesome. Might check out that book sometime.

people think he was a sci fi auther, he wasn't, I recomend also "Down and Out in London and Paris" and "Burmese Days".

I'll have to get this book, I didn't know it existed.

yeah it's only just been publish in 2006. If you are an Orwell fan you may have read these, but then, it can be surprisingly hard to find Orwell's books except for 1984 and Animal Farm. Burmese Days and Down and Out in London and Paris are fantastic books by Orwell as well.
