WHISKY! I find that making offerings of what YOU like best, to be best. Why would you offer the Gods anything you yourself do not like? I certainly wouldn't pour out a budweiser that's for sure.

Wow, so that's what that book looks like brand new huh? My version is all kinds of busted up from over-reading ;)

Hail to you *Favorited*

Lol!

I also like to say, if it rings true in both worlds it is likely true.

I respect your right to your opinion above all. Having said that, I disagree with you.

There is a right and a wrong, as far as organic lif-forms like ourselves are concerned.

That which is right furthers life and supports the healthy state of living systems. That which is wrong is destructive to life and produces unhealthy states in living systems.

Simple. It is not rocket science or even philosophy per se. It is biologic realism. This is why "religion" evolved in the first place.

Oh for goodness sake! I didn't mean there is no right and wrong as far as morality goes. Of course there is and I agree with you there! Sometimes I have a hard time making a point, so please excuse me for the misunderstanding.

What I was trying to say was, not everything regarding practice should be set in stone.

Sure I believe in the Nine Noble Virtues and yes I will offer a horn to the Gods, etc.
But say for example, I make my vocal offerings in English, and wear my blue jeans and t-shirt before my altar.

I hope I've made things a bit clearer. :-)

*smiles* Thanks for responding, and if you'll forgive foul language, I call it the "shit smell test". By the way, I've not understood the difference between a Giant and a Thurse (sp?). What is it?

Youre thoughts on UPG are good too. One might also judge based on how it inspires a person to act. For example, if they suddenly think they have all the answers, it's probably not good UPG. If the person becomes more reflective and has a change of heart for the better, it's probably good.

It is also matter of "consensual reality". For example if just one person tells me that he saw a vision wherein Thor now has a purple mohawk for a hair-doo, I would think that was curious, and wonder why Thor, if it was really him, would choose to reveal himself with a mohawk haircut to this one guy. There is probably an individual message of some kind meant just for him.

But, on the other hand, if I hear from 100 people independently that they experienced a vision of the mohawked Thor...

... or if I heard of whole tribe of Heathen who worship a Thor with a purple mohawk, than I would give the idea more weight - even if only to recognize that there exists such a tribe who sees Thor in that way.

It is a mistaken premise of prophetism - the messiah syndrome- that just because one guy hears or sees something "from god(s)" that it must therefore apply equally to all people.

At the same time, the more people give an idea attention, the more reality it has. An old saying...

I ask:

Does the vision concord - is it in aome way harmonic - with the ancestors and their culture? Does it ring true in terms of the lore? If so it has added weight, in my view.

At the same time, there are Giants or Thurses who *pose* as gods but they are not. It often takes many riddles to discover them. As Odhin says `be wary always`
