Organic Conscious Photons

Back

A wacky philosophical poem I wrote a few days ago. The book I read this stuff in was The Dancing Wu Li Masters; An Overview of the new Physics by Gary Zukav. Pretty good read so far. :)

When a photon is fired and goes through a slit.
How does it know that it can go to an area that is dark and unlit?
It could easily go through another that is open showing light.
Why does it go where there is only darkness in sight?
If consciousness is associated with quantum processes,
as the photo electric effect proves there are photons.
It also appears that in the double slit experiment,
the photons "know" whether or not both slits are open.
Though, it may seem enigmatic.
Since organic beings such as animals and people process information and act accordingly, could the photons be organic?

A very cool pom indeed I really like it a lot. Poetry, meets philosophy coupled with spiritual insight. Very awesome. :) *big hugs* for Haley. :)

Thanks, Warren. I didn't really think this poem was honestly my best, it was more imagery in my opinion than philosophy, but I think it's always interesting to see what other people see in my poetry. I always appreciate the insight. Thanks for listening. :)

Wow cool! I have never heard a poem on photons or on any realm of physics before.
It is interesting how photons behave, if they didn't behave so we wouldn't be able to enjoy light, there is a meaning for it as you see.

Thanks. Yeah, I know I have a unique style, eh? :)
Yeah, without photons there would be no light. The little wonders of the physics of nature, eh? Thanks for the comment. :)

This is interesting - on the last day of class, our physics professor went into this concept in detail. He explained how under certain circumstances, photons follow a certain path depending on their ultimate destination - but the photon somehow behaves in a way that suggests it knows it's ultimate location, even if that location is experimentally altered even after the photon has left its original position. That is, it knows what your going to do before you do it.

I forget what else he said, but apparently this can be interpreted to suggest that there is no physical reality. Apparently, oppenheimer came up with part of this. I tried researching this concept online, but wasn't sure what exactly to search for...
Anyway, cool poem.

The book I read said a physicist E.H. Walker speculated about the possibility. I didn't know that Oppenheimer came up with part of it. That's interesting. I'm not too sure what to look for either if you're looking for information about this online. Maybe try double slit experiment? Thanks for the comment. :)

Try searching for 'Quantum Eraser.'

Hello. 'The Organic Photon'? A fairly standard interpretation of QM is that the whole Universe is a single quantum-mechanical state, evolving through he interaction of that state with consciousness. The photon would go nowhere if it wasn't for you, me, and a whole bunch of other sentient, organic observers. We drive the light! How neat is that!?
HaleyMary (May 14, 2008 at 11:37 pm)
Hi there. :)

Yes, indeed. It is neat that we drive the light. But, on the other hand, if there was no light in the universe, we wouldn't be here to drive it at all. I suppose a person could philosophize forever about things like that. Thanks for the comment. :)
