I agree that quantum physics doesn't prove free will, either. People have some free will in that they are able to make choices in life, but those choices are still determined by how many options that are available to them at the time.

For the most part yea, we are subject to the determinism of the mind. However, nothing in science can explain conscious self awareness distinct from other consciousnesses in the world......thus it raises the scary thought that we may live in a "zombie" universe where only one person is conscious. Of course experiencing ego death puts a lot of that under question.

we can only truly relate when we see ourselves in another. In admitting the reality of the "self" we have a commonality...we are talking to our "self". No more ego based conversations about "this is me, this is what I have, this is what I've done" but instead actual conversation about the phenomenon of experience. Beautiful video.

I have a response as well, didn't get to it yesterday... cheers.

A book I'd suggest is "Reinhabiting Reality" by Freya Mathews. She claims that human and environmental disasters are the direct result of deeper issues of disfunctional modern civilization. Her ideas are developed from an ecophilosophical viewpoint. She is poetic and makes lots of sense. Love your stuff, Matt!

You, and others here, Try and buy and read this book:
AN UNNATURAL ORDER: The Roots of Our Destruction of Nature, by Jim Mason ISBN: 1-59056-081-7

I am currently reading it, and it is VERY good!

1ST: I'm not a Christian and never will be.
That said, you might want to try this.
Take the red letter New Testament and read
only the red letter parts, ignore the rest.
Think on what the lilies of the field part
means in terms of the Tao and desire to force
the universe to do something for you.

I only mentioned that because there seems to
be a disconnect from even recent history in
young people. There are also an enormous
number of artifacts that have sprung into
existence in your lifetime and you probably
think they were always here, if you think
about them at all.

Matt,

I applaud your efforts and support your idea of trying to come up with a nondual metaphysic to replace the cartesian dualism that permeates our worldview. Maybe I am misunderstanding, but isn't any philosophy that calls itself nondual by its very nature unexpressable and therefore unable to be put into knower/known categories? or do you think that altering concepts and calling it nondual will somehow be closer to the truth of the way things really are.

You're right, I can only read about it and use my imagination.
