You are referring to the old testament: an eye for an eye and such as.

Jesus' life as portrayed in the new testament was about forgiveness, understanding, helping those less fortunate, denial of wealth, and taking up your own cross. That's the problem with the bible, it should have been released in two different printings.

most of the scriptures dealing with the death penalty are in the old testament, however Jesus also talked about it in the new testament as well. It would do you good to read the Bible, and try to understand it, before actually commenting on it.

I searched the English Standard Version Old Testament for the phrase "put to death" it showed up 69 times. There were 9 results for the New Testament. Also, of interest to me is this: Numbers 35:30 "If anyone KILLS a person, the MURDERER shall be put to death on the evidence witnesses..." Seems "killing" and "murder" are synonymous.

The bible writings were written (mostly) by and for the Jewish people. I'm not a bible scholar, I rely on translation, and I realize much is lost in translation.
