North Korea raises tension with a missile launch

Back

Anna Chan:
North Korea has test-launched several short-range missiles today in what analysts say is a show of anger towards Washington and South Korea. Here's more.

The launch comes one day after the North expelled South Korean officials from a joint industrial complex. The new government in Seoul has told its communist neighbors to clean up its human rights abuses and get on with nuclear disarmament talks.

South Korean officials say the missile launches were part of a military exercise.

[Lee Dong-Kwan, Blue House Spokesperson]:
"It looks like part of a regular military exercise to the Blue House and we are closely monitoring the situation... We believe the North does not want a deterioration of relations between the South and the North."

New South Korean president Lee Myung-bak says he wants to end the free ride given to North Korea. Lee's government says it is ready to invest heavily in the impoverished state if the North ceases its nuclear arms program.

The communist state has more than 1,000 missiles, with at least 800 of them ballistic. Its launches are often timed to coincide with periods of political tension.

if a few missiles were fired near South Korea and Japan, why would we help out? When North Korea almost destroyed Alaska, South Korea didn't do anything or even say anything. I say we focus on ending what some call a war in Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran. Let the soldiers go home to their families...we most likely aren't going to find Osama Bin Laden...and we brought democracy to Iraq, let's just leave it at that.

Don't worry! we will come to South Korea to support and protect from North Korean invasion. In 4 hours, we will bomb to North Korea with super sonic aircraft.

And than what? do you think Korean leader care if his citizens dont have industry left? King jong just shoot some nuclear missiles to south korea and japan. war will cool down and there is just some hundred thousand dead civils, nothing new for him. Rebuilding tokyo would turn asian/world markets down and there would be lama.

When he presses his bottom, he definately die. Pressing the bottom is political suicide. After the missile reveal the position on the ladar, we will bomb his palace. Does he care himself? I think he isn't stupid enough to press the nuke bottom
