What is "BASF Kids' Lab"?
In June 1997, BASF invested DM500,000 (over RMB 2 million) in Ludwigshafen, our corporate headquarters in Germany, to construct an interactive chemistry laboratory for children aged 6 to 12, free of charge. We called this "BASF Kids' Lab".

BASF Kids' Lab is the first hands-on exhibition in Europe on the subject of chemistry, where children can conduct small chemical experiments on their own and learn about the world of chemistry in a fun-filled and safe environment. It turned out to be a great success. This original and interactive activity has received favorable comments from children, parents and teachers ever since its launch. So far it has received 55,000 children in Europe.

Why bring Kids' Lab to China?
For over 120 years, BASF has been a committed partner to China. So in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Sino-German diplomatic relations in 2002, BASF staged its proprietary "BASF Kids' Lab" outside Germany for the first time, and chose Beijing, China as the place to do it. The result was overwhelming. BASF Kids' Lab was well received not only by kids but also by parents, academic institutions as well as the media. From then on, this proprietary BASF concept was expanded to other cities Nanjing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei. In 2008, BASF staged Kids' Lab in China for the seventh consecutive year and brought this program to Chongqing in May for the first time. Till now, more than 87,200 kids took part in the activities in China.

Our goal is simple. We would like school children to understand that chemistry is a part of their everyday life and to be conscious of environmental protection through interactive experiments. A major challenge to Sustainable Development is how to preserve our planet without depriving future generations of their development opportunities. By invigorating their awareness on preserving and protecting today's environment in a readily comprehensible way, we aim at coaching this young generation to carry out the mission of Sustainable Development.

BASF Kids' Lab in China is just one more concrete demonstration of BASF's voluntary participation in sustainable development.

What will happen at the exhibit?
Children visiting BASF Kids' Lab will conduct two to three hands-on experiments that are closely linked with their daily life and environmental protection. Each child will be mentored by well-trained voluntary instructor at a low tutor-to-student ratio, about 1 to 3 or 4. Instructors will explain the process, then guide them step by step in carrying out various interactive experiments under a safe and comfortable simulated laboratory. At the end of the session, children will jot down their feedback and what they have learnt through the course of the experiments. 巴斯夫
