Jesus Christ's Limited Atonement?
Back"Let there be no misunderstanding at this point. The Arminian limits the atonement as certainly as does the Calvinist. The Calvinist limits the extent of it in that he says it does not apply to all persons (although as has already been shown, he believes that it is efficacious for the salvation of the large proportion of the human race); while the Arminian limits the power of it, for he says that in itself it does not actually save anybody. The Calvinist limits it quantitatively, but not qualitatively; the Arminian limits it qualitatively, but not quantitatively. For the Calvinist it is like a narrow bridge which goes all the way across the stream; for the Arminian it is like a great wide bridge which goes only half-way across...."

This clip from Amazing Grace: The History and Theology of Calvinism deals with the subject of the L, limited atonement.

Over 400 people witnessed Jesus alive on the earth 3 days after His death. End of story!

How do you know that is a fact. No historian has ever written an account of this happening that was alive during the periods that this was supposed to have taken place. The bible was written hundreds of years after the events described in it took place.

Jesus died for all who choose to believe. We don't know who is elect until after they are saved, but God has known since the beginning of creation. After all, he gave us our ability to choose.

Octane, God only gives the ability to choose to His Elect and causes to be Born from Above. John 6:44, Psalm 65:4, James 1:18. Choosing Him is not the basis for salvation John 15:16.

For more information, do a google search under corporate election; Karl Barths view on election. It is also known as Christological election. Also read 'Elect in the Son' by Robert Shank. This view does not deny Gods sovereignty, answers clear scriptures, and is not depressing like this limited atonement concept.

**TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE TIRED OF THIS UNENDING CALVINIST/ARMINIAN DEBATE** -Yes, predestination is a scriptural concept. But there is a third (often overlooked) view on what form it takes. It is called CORPORATE election. It is not just some nutty idea with no credibility, but has been espoused by many theologians -most notably Karl Barth. WE-the church - are elect IN CHRIST. Eph.1:4 Christ is the only one identified as the elected one.Isa.42:1;Luke 9:35. I wish this view would get more 'airplay'

"You can't tell any man that Christ died for him and be honest because he may not be elect." - on my way back from taking my daughter to school today I was thinkng exactly the same thing."
Can you provide one example from Scripture where an apostle or anyone else says, "Christ died for you?" I see where they say, "Christ died for sinners" and "Christ died for me", but can you provide one verse where the apostles go to an unbeliever and say, "Christ died for you"?

So when you witness to someone you only ever say "Jesus died for sinners" or "Jesus died for me"? And when someone responds "are you saying Jesus died for me?" what do you then say?
