They retired (if really "quit" the job), since they're heroes isn't hard to imaginate that, and they should enjoy the good things of life now on. Simple like that.

Eu adorei esse final. No seriado todo, não se viu nenhuma cena de beijo ou amor. Esse anime foi feito para adultos, não para crianças, por isso foi adaptado.

This is not just a random sex scene, it is supposed to serve as a closure to all the fans whom followed the Yamato series.

Once again it is the general misconception of anime=cartoon=for kids. The only thing wrong is the people who tried to gimp a M show to all ages then blaming it for poisoning the kids.

As a mature person reading a story. The heroes finally, finally overcame all the wars and deaths and pain and what do you expect them to do, just hold hands and live happily ever after, end?

Very true. But back in the late 60s and 70s, no one ever heard of the mature rating except in films where its considered "art". And cartoons are usually targeted to children which is the stigma at that time (saturday morning cartoons). The Japanese animation industry are one step ahead for bringing animation to a higher level when it comes to story and animation sequences.

Starblazers (Yamato) was my absolute favorite cartoon as a kid, and it certainly imprinted a lot on my life! :)

It was a lot more on character and story than... Inspector Gadget or "Lioncats" or whatever... and ESPECIALLY 1000x better than "Pokemon" or what not THESE days. Sheesh.
